Opened in 2009, the Yaowarat Chinatown Heritage Center is the one of Bangkok’s newest attractions. The modern history museum is located on the second floor of the newly renovated Phra Maha Mondop Wat Traimitr Wittayaram (Temple of the Golden Buddha) in Bangkok. Chinatown, offers a wealth of information from the past to present. The museum is divided into six interactive exhibit sections that will take you on a fabulous journey into the past, revealing the centuries’ old Yaowarat Chinatown.
Zone 1 - features a small theater area. A video presentation tells the story of life in Yaowarat Chinatown in the 1940s. The Chinese immigrants who were able to live in peace and happiness thanks to the benevolence of the Thai monarchs.
Zone 2- relates the history of the Chinese in Bangkok and Thonburi, the origin of the Chinese community in Sampheng and the influx of Chinese immigrants from the reign of King Rama I to the reign of King Rama III (1782-1851), over the time Chinatown became the biggest trading hub of the Thai capital. Famine in southern China caused many Hokkiens and Teochews to migrate to Southeast Asia. You will find yourself in an area representing Sampheng market during King Rama III’s reign.
Zone 3 - presents an exquisite 3D model of the Yaowarat road in its most prosperous years around 1957 when it was the modern business and entertainment center of Bangkok as well as location of 3 tallest buildings of Thailand. ??The model is surrounded by 11 Dioramas presenting social life and cultures of Yaowarat residents at the time. Yaowarat Road was built in 1891 in the reign of King Rama V. It has been said that this 1.5 km road weaves through the heart of Chinatown Bangkok like a dragon.
Zone 4 - The Hall of Fame features famous Yaowarat personalities who are role-models and an inspiration for the next generation.
Zone 5 – presents a gallery of photographs and video of His Majesty the King and the royal family’s benevolence to Yaowarat community as well as the royal activities carried out for the friendly ties between Thailand and China.
Zone 6 - presents the present-day Yaowarat and various attractive places around Yaowarat area.

By Train:
Take the MRT subway to Hua Lamphong station and on disembarking head for Exit 1. The temple is located about 200 meters along Traimit Road on the right hand side of the road.
