Samui joins hands for ‘Clean Up Day’ to woo tourists back on the island
Samui Airport – Recently, Samui Municipal in a joint effort with Bangkok Airways, Bangkok Hospital Samui, Vejdusit Foundation, the Tourism Coordination Center in Samui, Thai Hotels Association and the Tourism Association of Koh Samui organised a press conference for “Samui Clean Up Day” held at Samui Park Avenue’s Clock Tower area, Samui Airport. The objective of the activity is to invite local businesses and communities to join forces in a major clean-up of Koh Samui after the recent storm and flood situation.
“Samui Clean Up Day” is the latest co-operated activity between government sectors, residents and those in tourism business in Samui who have been affected by the flood, and is especially formed to demonstrate the readiness of Samui’s facilities in order to welcome its tourists. The activity’s launching ceremony will be held at the Chaweng Lake which will be the starting point for the massive cleaning operation. Moreover, 10,000 t-shirts produced particularly for the partakers will be sponsored by the Vejdusit Foundation, under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra.
“This teamwork will convey a clear message of how the residents of Koh Samui love and care for their home. And Koh Samui itself has an international level of safety standard therefore tourists can visit Samui at anytime of year” said, Koh Samui Mayor Mr. Ramnate Jaikwang.
Mr. Bannasart Ruangchan, the President of the Koh Samui Tourism Association commented, “Our current mission is helping and healing those in need and to restore Samui’s tourism. Samui Clean Up Day will set an example to other tourist destinations in Thailand that have been hit by disaster of how business sector and local residents can work together in harmony.”
M.L. Nandhika Varavarn, Bangkok Airways’ Vice President - Corporate Communications said, “Samui is back in business and is ready to welcome its tourists back for summer. And to encourage the travelers, Bangkok Airways will launch a special – all inclusive return fare Bangkok-Samui of 4,300 baht which will be launched at the Siam Paragon’s The Ultimate Dreamed Destination fair held during 12 – 20 May. Passengers can also grab this deal through Bangkok Airways’ website www.bangkokair.com only during this open sale period. This special promotion will be valid for travel within 30 July 2011.”
The Vejdusit Foundation and Bangkok Hospital Group played a vital role in providing immediate medical care and medivac after the situation occurred and are the co-sponsor for Samui Clean Up Day. “As a business sector on Koh Samui, we are delighted to be a part of this inspiring event made possible by all of us who want the best for Samui and are proud to welcome tourists to visit our beautiful home”, commented by Dr. Narintara Boonjongcharoen, Hospital Director Bangkok Hospital Samui.
Head of the Tourism Coordination Center in Samui, Ms. Saipayom Somsuk, commented, “One of the activities of Samui Clean Up Day is a survey of Koh Samui and the surrounding islands e.g. Koh Pha-Ngan, Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan, to make absolutely sure that these islands are in good conditions for the tourists.”
The overall conditions of Koh Samui, Koh Pha-Ngan, Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan from now to the summer are likely to get as warm as 35 degree Celsius. All transportation means and public utilities are operated as usual.
Moreover, Thailand Tourism Authority will launch a series of events to promote Samui and other tourist spots in southern Thailand which will include; media fam trips, Table Top Sales, the launch of ‘Tid Koh’ pocket book. TAT will also invite the affected private tourism sectors to attend its trade show without charge at ‘Mahadsajun Tiew Muang Thai’ held 26 – 29 May at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, and will hold ‘Amazing Thailand Grand Sale’ for the first time on Koh Samui between 15 June – 31 August 2011.
