Wat Yan Nawa, literally “the boat temple”,an old temple dated back to the Ayutthaya period, is probably the best known temple Sathon. It has a unique junk shaped chedi and viharn built by King Rama III. The idea behind the construction was that as the Chinese junk was quickly disappearing then the pagoda should show present-day descendants what it looked like. The temple was known as Wat Khok khwai during the Ayutthaya kingdom and Wat khok krabue during the Ayutthaya kingdom and Wat khok krabue during the Thonburi and early Rattanakosin eras, before the construction of the chedi.
