History
Wat Sakesa Rajaworamahavihara or Wat Saket is a royal temple of the second rank and is also one of the temples of importance in the establishment of Bangkok. It was built in the Ayutthaya era and originally known as “Wat Sakae”. King Rama I later ordered for its renovation and dug a canal around the temple and renamed it as Wat Saket. Later in the reign of King Rama III, it was renovated again in which time the Golden Mount or Phu Khao Thong was created. However, the Golden Mount collapsed as a result of the soft soil which could not support its weight. Later, King IV built a small chedi on its crest that was completed in the reign of King Rama V.
