What / Why :

This active temple can be a nice alternative stop during boat rides. It tends to flood first during the monsoon season, but that shouldn’t be a problem. This temple looks clean and new; even the courtyard around the main prang is tiled.

There is no record of when this ancient temple was built. The only Royal Chronicle account was during the last reign of Ayutthaya, King Suriyamarin (1758-1767). The Burmese used this temple as a military base to fire cannon across the river onto the island city. Subsequently, the temple was totally destroyed in the process. Prince Isranurak, King Rama I’s nephew, restored it under its new name. Under his renovations chedis were added inside the main prang’s niches (in older periods this would have been a Buddha image).
