What / Why :

The setting sun glitters and shines its warm light on the city of Longka. Colourful flowers in Kwan Garden are in full bloom as Princess Benjakai arrives there on a gem-studded royal palanquin in a procession. On the order of demon king Thotsakan, Benjakai must spy on the abducted Princess Sita and disguise herself as the lifeless Sita to lure Rama into mourning her death and withdrawing his army. At dawn, the dead body of Sita is floating in the water, which glows orange with the first ray of sunlight. To prove it is not the real Sita, Hanuman burns the corpse and chases Benjakai who flies to the sky.

The 'Episode of Nang Loi' from the classical epic, Ramakien, is familiar to fans of khon masked dance. Yet, in a special performance organised by the Support Foundation to be held later this month, the audience will be in awe of the sublime beauty of traditional dancing, music, settings, costumes, gold jewellery and ancient-style make-up art.
