What / Why :

A choreographer and dancer of exquisite grace, Pichet Klunchun emerges from the tradition of khon (classical Thai dance-drama) and masterfully combines this form with modern dance.

Chui Chai means “transformation”. In this performance, Pichet Klunch Dance Company presents this idea through the “Nang Loi Episode”, the story from Ramayana Epic. “Todsakarn”, the demon King, orders “Princess Benyakai” to transform herself to “Sita”, queen of “Rama” who is his enemy and play dead in order to stop the war.

Women in breathtaking, ornamented costumes move delicately through pools of light, contrasting with Klunchun, who mirrors their movements while shifting between traditional and contemporary styles.

Apart from “transformation of Princess Benyakai”, audiences will see the “transformation of Thai society from Ayudhya Era until this present Era, Rattanakosin Era.

The transformation of the society is delivered through the development of dance form in the show; from past to present.
