The US$200,000 PTT Pattaya Open, WTA professional women’s tennis tournament will be held at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Pattaya, from 5 – 12 February 2012. Now in its 21st year the unique tournament which is played in a beachside location promises an exciting line-up of top women tennis stars, including former Grand Slam champions. There is also plenty of off-court activities to enhance the experience of spectators who get a close-up view of the action in the compact stadium at the venue.

2012 PTT Pattaya Open set to serve up a winner
Following on from the hugely successful 2011 PTT Pattaya Open, WTA Tour professional women’s tennis tournament, next year’s event promises to be even better.
Scheduled for 5 – 12 February 2012 at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Pattaya, an exciting line-up of stars is already being put into place for the 21st edition of the tournament, which is one of the longest running events on the WTA Tour.
The PTT Pattaya Open is unique on the professional tennis tour, in that it is played in a 5-star hotel with a beachside location, where the tennis courts almost touch the sea. On a windy day, you can feel the sea spray on your face and hear the sound of the waves hitting the sand on the beach below.
Throughout its 20 years of existence, the PTT Pattaya Open has always been a popular tournament with the players and has seen many famous names grace the courts at the Dusit Thani, such as Anna Kournikova, Martina Hingis, Conchita Martinez and more recently Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonareva and Ana Ivanovic. In 2010, the PTT Pattaya Open was voted the international series “Tournament of the Year” by the players of the WTA Tour, beating 32 other tournaments from Asia, Australasia, Europe and the Americas.

The compact stadium was expanded in 2011 to seat a little over 2,500 spectators on finals weekend, this capacity increase was needed as the number of spectators in 2011 leapt by a staggering 42%. There was also a surge in print and electronic media coverage and “live” TV broadcasts, not just in Thailand, but in Asia, Europe and the Americas as well.
Needless to say, this has resulted in an increase in interest amongst companies wanting to be associated with the tournament. To meet their requirements changes will be made to the layout of facilities in 2012. The centre court café will be moved to a new location in the re-laid garden area and the 300 square metres of vacated space will be utilized as an extension to the activity zone for tournament sponsors.
The 2012 tournament will take place over 8 days with qualifying being held on 5 – 6 February and main draw matches commencing from the 6 February. The singles and doubles finals will be held on Sunday 12 February 2012 starting at 15.00
